Reminder: There is a new rule for the Monaco Grand Prix, It’s a mandatory 2 stop race and drivers must drive 2 different tyre compounds. This means fans receive more entertainment because as everyone knows Monaco can be a bit of a ‘boring’ race.

Lap 1 Lando had a great getaway but his front tyres locked up, luckily he got away unscathed. Gabriel Bortoleto crashed into the barriers even so he was able to reverse and drive back to the pits. With very little damage to the car he was able to carry on racing. A VSC was deployed so many drivers took advantage of this to come into the pits for a cheap pit stop. A couple laps later the race restarted.

Lap 8 another yellow flag was displayed as Pierre Gasly crashed into the back of Tsunoda. Unfortunately Gasly lost a wheel and braking power. The drivers were unable to take advantage of a pit stop due to debris on the track at the entry of the pit lane. Lap 11 restarted with Max heavy on Oscar’s tail.

Lap 18 Bearman came in for his second pit stop and Hamilton and Norris for their first.

Max complained, his tyres didn’t look good and shortly came into the pits. On exiting Piastri was in front of him.

By lap 34 Lando and Charles had already lapped half the grid.

Half-way through Fernando Alonso drove into a gap to retire the car, due to his smart move a safety car was not required. Though it wasn’t the way they wanted to race, Williams used Albon to hold the drivers behind him to create a gap which enabled Carlos to pit stop.

George Russell left the track and gained an advantage but instead of giving the position back to Alex he took the 20 second drive through penalty. This weekend really hasn’t been a good one for Mercedes. Lap 55 George came into the pits to take his penalty.

A few laps later Carlos swapped back with Alex so he could hopefully finish in P9 enabling Williams to achieve a double points finish.

Within the last 9 laps Charles increased the pressure on Lando. Max was in P1 holding Lando back. Shortly after Lando asked for help from his teammate, Oscar, who had DRS on Charles which put pressure on Leclerc. 1 lap left and Max took his second pit stop leaving Lando leading the Grand Prix. If you’re a McLaren fan like me the last lap was one of the most nerve racking, last laps ever.

And Lando Norris won the Monaco Grand Prix!
