Race 14: Hungary

Lap 1 Charles had a great getaway but Lando Norris lost 2 positions going from P3 to P5. Charles quickly created distance between him and the McLaren of Oscar Piastri.

Both Saubers were under investigation for a false start. Bortoleto was spared and proceeded chasing his boss, Alonso for P5. However Hulkenberg was given a 5 second penalty.

Norris began closing in on Russell for P3 and by lap 11 had DRS.

Lap 20 Russell and Leclerc pit, leaving Norris leading the race, but still waiting to pit. Many drivers were thinking about the one stop while Charles Leclerc was doubting his chance of winning.

Lap 30 Max and Hamilton battled it out at turn 4 for P11, with Hamilton running wide, Max gained the position. Lap 31 Lando came in for a rapid 1.9 second pit stop and came out P4 behind Russell.

The one stop worked well for Lando as he was now leading the pack. Lap 49 Bearman was told to retire the car. Lap 51 Oscar overtook Leclerc for P2 and he began hunting down his teammate.

With less than 10 laps remaining Russell was hot on an angry Charles Leclerc’s tail. George was quick on the radio accusing Charles of moving under braking, which he was under investigation for and received a 5 second penalty. Russell made the move and gained P3.

The last 6 laps saw a tense battle between the McLaren drivers. Lando keeping his cool out in front and Oscar closing in on him with DRS. Oscar locked up when he lunged for an overtake. All eyes were glued to the screen and Lando handled it beautifully. Lando charged to the finish line and he got the win. McLaren’s 4th consecutive 1-2, meaning they go into the summer break on a high!
